With its undulating, ascending façade, horizontal travertine cladding and embedded windows, the Shell Building, completed in 1932, is still considered by many to be the most elegant office building in Berlin. From a technical point of view, structural engineer Gerhard Mensch turned it into a steel skeleton building that was sophisticated down to the last detail and set new standards.
